Foam rolling and why you should do it!

Foam rolling is an easy way to perform self-massage and help release tightness in your muscles.

Benefits of Foam rolling?

  • Cost-effective – Once you have a foam roller, it is FREE!
  • Time-efficient – better than stretching for muscle release and is something you can do independently at home.
  • Prevents Injury & Helps You Recover Faster.
  • Not Just For Fitness – For office workers too!

The research suggests:

May break up adhesions and scar tissue that cause pain

Can help to improve mobility and flexibility leading to increased range of motion and better movement patterns.

Promotes blood flow which removes lactic acid and increases oxygen uptake assisting recovery

May assist in reducing stress hormone levels (this one I think is because you’re taking the time out to do something for yourself for a change!!)

How to use a Foam Roller Roll

down your body with long slow strokes pausing over areas of tightness until you feel the pain reduce and the area begin to release. Foam rolling shouldn’t hurt it should be similar pressure to that of a firm massage. Keep watch of our Instagram @lakesidesportsmedicine for demonstrations.
